The most spectacular vantage point of the bay area is from the hillsides of Marin County. The Marin Headlands State Park and the Fort Baker - Golden Gate National Recreation Area can be reached by taking the first exit off the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge. Toward the ocean side, there are several lookout areas which were gun emplacements from the 1890s provide the best views of the bridge and the city.
